  35. My experiance in Germany as a GI was that it's a nice place to
  36. visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.  At least they fight
  37. with their fists though, as in the U.S. you have to kill your
  38. opponent with a weapon :-)

  40. Just a guess, but I'd say this guy is on a burn-out and will
  41. probably go away rather quickly.  He's just making trouble
  42. because he can.  If you would build a network to replace his
  43. then you could make him insignificant and he will go away
  44. even faster.  I'd say his attitude is not normal and should
  45. be shunned by decent hams.  There's probably a nice guy in the
  46. same area willing to help.

  92. These activities qualify as malicious interference, and are punishable (at
  93. least in the USA) by fines and, in serious cases, by forfeiture of licenses.
  94. Just ask W4AD here in Northern Virginia, who has been facing a $2,000 fine
  95. for the last 12 months, and has just been denied his appeal.  Invoke the
  96. proper authorities next time you see such behaviour and let the FCC raise
  97. some cash by means other than license fees.

  104. This is AMATEUR radio.  It's a HOBBY.  People lose interest in hobbies from
  105. time to time.  That's one reason why repeaters are often owned and operated
  106. by a group of hams, instead of by individuals.  If someone drifts out of 
  107. the fun, the repeater stays on the air.  Packet doesn't have as much of this
  108. sort of support, in part because you can put a network node on the air with
  109. off-the-shelf components for the cost of a decent HF transceiver.  If 
  110. repeaters were as cheap and easy to set up, they'd probably be in the same
  111. boat.

  117. An excellant idea.  A bunch of the Northern VA packet and TCP/IP gang make
  118. a regular event out of this.  When someone drifts through the area, we
  119. shanghai them for an evening or two and trade ideas, experiences, and
  120. french fries.
